In an instant a family’s home turns from the safest place (psychologically and physically) into a cage they couldn’t escape from as they were surrounded by terrorists who then entered and butchered them inside.
I took inspiration from a photo taken in Kibbutz Be’eri and recreated the horrible scene in my installation. I added the book “a tale of five balloons” as allusion to the pro-democracy rallies before the October 7th massacre where warnings of impending danger with catastrophic outcomes resulting from the government’s actions were voiced. I also placed the wounded unicorn as a symbol of our wounded hi-tech industry and the prosperity it brought to our economy - all at stake because of the war. ZAKA’s volunteers (responsible for clearing human remains from crime scenes) have told me this installation reminded them of the horrors they encountered when they removed the bodies from the affected houses.
