F41 - 28.09.2023 - The prayer at Habima Square
Project type
Live installation
Date
28.09.2023
Location
TLV HaBima sq.
The prayer at Habima Square was created due to the controversy over prayer in public spaces, where some religious people wanted to pray with gender separation. On Yom Kippur, I decided to attend wearing a pearl crown and a sash like that of a beauty queen, with the inscription "A Woman of Valor, who can find?" and a red flag. What does "A Woman of Valor, who can find?" mean when women are treated as inferior?
The implied concern of the religious is that men cannot be in the presence of women for fear that their bodies or presence will tempt them, and they will not be able to control their desires. All this in a public space here in Tel Aviv?! Is that possible?
