F37 - 11.09.2023 - Kapparot rooster
Location
Jerusalem
Date
11.09.2023
Project type
Live installation
I exhibited this live installation in a demonstration against the government’s attempt to alter and effectively void the reasonableness clause, which protects citizens from arbitrary actions by the government. It was held in the month of Tishrei in Jerusalem. To receive my rights as a divorcee, I needed to register my new status at the ministry of interior. I was sent back and forth due to the lack of synchronization between the ministry of interior and the Chief Rabbinate computers, and the ministry’s requirement for original divorce documents instead of copies. Towards the end of this time-consuming and resource-draining process, I came across a store with a Kapparot rooster shaped balloon. It felt fitting to buy it at that moment for my next live installation [in Hebrew we use the term ‘Kapara’ colloquially when we refer to actions resulting in wasted resources - as if to say we atone for the energy we wasted or the negative consequence of an action to signify its relative insignificance].
