Kfar Saba is celebrating 120 years and in honor of the celebrations they invited “Jane Bordeaux” to perform in the city. Doron, the band's soloist, just before she sang Naomi Shemer's song for the protection of plants, recounted the story behind the song (I didn't know the story until that moment). When Doron started singing and came to the line: "Everybody goes by, grabs, picks, gets a bouquet" I couldn't hold back the tears and burst into tears. My feeling about being harassed in the rabbinic court where I was asked about my marital relationship with my husband and the lawyer who urged me to immediately take a lie detector test to validate my answers as true shocked me.
I was reminded of what rape victims describe after the fact: the feelings of humiliation, the invasion of their privacy, their out of body experience overlooking their rape from a bird's eye view. These are similar to the feelings I went through during the judicial process, and they resurfaced upon hearing this song. I Therefore created this installation as a tribute to Naomi Shemer’s efforts to put a spotlight on women’s rights.
